Verbal Opt-In Script
Four Words recipients are added only after personal invitation and verbal consent. This is the exact script the sender uses when inviting a new recipient.
Context
Four Words recipients are invited by Matthew Arozian (the sender) in person or by phone — never by form, website, or mass outreach. Invitations typically happen in conversation with friends, family, or members of the sender's church community who have expressed interest in receiving a daily theological thought.
The script
The following words, or a close variation, are spoken by the sender during the invitation:
"I send out a daily devotional text called Four Words. Every morning, I send a Reformed theological quote from an author like Spurgeon, Calvin, or Edwards, along with a short four-word phrase. It goes out once a day, every day. I'd like to add you if you're interested. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Can I add your number?"
The sender waits for an explicit verbal "yes" before adding the recipient. Silence, ambiguous response, or "maybe" is treated as a no. The recipient's phone number is taken only after they have clearly agreed.
Confirmation message
Immediately after the recipient is added to the system, they receive an automated confirmation SMS from the Four Words sending number:
"Welcome [name]! You've been added to the Four Words daily devotional. You'll receive one message per day. Reply STOP to unsubscribe."
This gives the recipient a chance to opt out immediately if they have changed their mind, and provides a written record of the enrollment.
Consent record
The date, time, and method of each recipient's enrollment is logged in the Four Words system. This creates an auditable record demonstrating that every recipient was added with explicit consent.
Opt-out
Recipients may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Opt-out requests are processed immediately. Recipients may also contact the sender by submitting a request with "OPT OUT" in the message field, by mail (see the Contact page), or in person.
